Basic Music TheoryIntroduction
The Major Scale
Listen to the following example:
The notes that you hear in a musical composition don't occur in isolation. Notes combine together to form a harmonic structure, and this structure typically follows specific patterns.
In this course we will explore how notes are organized into scales, and grouped together to form chords. We'll also talk about intervals, which measure the distance between notes, and key signatures, which identify the scale, or key, on which a composition is based.
Having a good understanding of the structure of music will greatly improve your ability to use chords, understand harmonies, and improvise melodic lines. And as you better understand the music you're playing, you will be able to bring more musicality to your intepretation.
